Things That Make You Go Hmmmm!
Now, Mama Ida has been sitting back, watching, listening, and paying attention. And the more I see, the more questions I have about the direction of leadership in our community.
But here’s where Mama Ida starts scratching her head.
Now, I believe people can change. I believe in second chances. I believe a person should not be forever condemned because of yesterday’s mistakes. But I also believe that when you put your name on a ballot, you invite the public to examine your history, your conduct, your judgment, and your ability to lead.
How does someone qualify to run for school board when people in the community have serious questions about that person’s history?
I have heard concerns about a school board candidate allegedly approaching individuals at the public library and asking for their phone numbers. I cannot tell you the circumstances or intentions behind those encounters, and those details deserve to be established before anyone draws conclusions.
But I can certainly ask this: What does that have to do with improving our schools?
The public library should be a place where citizens feel comfortable learning, reading, researching, and using community resources — not a place where anyone feels pressured to provide personal information.
And leadership requires more than putting your name on a campaign sign.
People can change, absolutely. But genuine change is demonstrated through consistent actions, not merely announced during election season.
Just because you can get your name on the ballot doesn’t automatically mean you’ve earned the confidence of the people.
Now, Mama Ida is going to leave this right here.
If asking questions makes someone uncomfortable, perhaps that’s exactly why the conversation needs to be had.
Things that make you go HMMMM…
